Overview
Finance Media has developed a generic data feed platform 'FM Data Manager' (FMDM) a complete 'Middle-Ware' data manager. FMDFH offers high performance data management and sub-millisecond data feed delivery, capable of processing in excess of a billion transactions a day without buffering or data loss.
Fully scalable and optimized to offer multiple concurrent inbound and outbound connections with sustainable high levels of through-put, FMDM can present both real-time and historical information and can support thin and thick client applications, web pages, AJAX and Java applets or bespoke applications and solutions integration.
In managing incoming data FMDM undertakes data vendor/data contributor protocol conversion as well as full symbol, ISIN, and mnemonic mapping to create a 'unified' data stream that can be customised to match the particular data format required by the client application.
FMDM data feed handling properties further allow user defined filters and rules to incoming data to be applied, monitoring out of range information and undertaking error correction and data validation checks. Data that breaks or fails these parameters is withheld and 'flagged' until a further data packet is detected then the value is considered to be true and therefore processed, if not then it is considered incorrect and not published.
Published data can be 'Streamed', 'Pushed' or 'Pulled', in real-time, delivered in one-minute updates, delayed and sent in one-minute intervals, streamed dynamically in real-time or 'polled' by individual data items on a 'pull' basis.
The modular design of the FME feed handler architecture makes it relatively straightforward to support different formats and protocols.
The FMDM server operates on Unix and has been fully optimised for streaming high-bandwidth data delivery, with a single server supporting hundreds of thousands of data items.
FMDM Server - architecture summary
- Operates as a data feed handler and distribution platform
- Receives incoming vendor/client data
- Operates user defined data rules and filters
- Effects data protocol conversion
- Databases all data
- Undertakes real-time and or delayed permissions
- Manages data and symbol mapping
- Offers real-time and historical data on demand by client's data requirements
- Data feed out-put 'Streamed', 'Pushed' or 'Pulled' basis via TCP/IP - HTTP/HTTPS connections
- Delivers data to client/web based applications
- Architecture is scalable to multiple load balanced FMDM Servers
